younger hunger, James Mantis, and Yoshi T. Make For a Fearsome Trio in "Time&Place"

Meeting the discomfort of your inner complacency with the hope that one day it’ll figure itself out, Younger Hunger enlists the help of Yoshi T. and James Mantis to birth the blissfully melancholic indie masterpiece “TIME&PLACE.”

The Cali-based trio, comprised of Tony Davia, Lucas Connor, and Becket Edwards, have lent their voices both musically and on their podcast All Talk. Exploring the woes of being an artist in the modern day, Younger Hunger does not stray away from wholeheartedly spilling their inner workings, deeply humanizing them as artists. We’re constantly invited into their friendship both musically and digitally, finding fragments of ourselves as they navigate their own existential dread out loud.

“TIME&PLACE” is no exception to their curated intimacy, standing as an alt-pop track that is immediately nostalgic and playfully honest. Lines like “I’ve got some bad moods I can’t seem to shake ‘em / Cold wind attack on my patience” make the loneliness just a little warmer.

Featuring on an indie track is a departure for Yoshi T., the punctual lyricist who is making waves in the alternative hip-hop realm, though this track proves the Japanese artist is much more malleable than we’ve yet to fully grasp. In the meantime, James Mantis adds his usual spunk, equipped with witty one-liners you could only do justice by rewinding. The accusation of an underbite is not to be taken lightly, of course.

“TIME&PLACE” sets a cozy tone for what’s to sprout from the indie-pop community. There’s nothing quite as messy as cleaning up your own undoing, but as Long Beach’s Younger Hunger so eloquently accepts it, maybe it’s all about finding the time and place.
