LA producer and songwriter, Jon Hill, is ready to take on his artist project, and his debut single, “Heart,†is a stunningly raw introduction.
A haunting acoustic progression leads us into “Heart,†accompanied by a twinkling electronic ambience in the distance. Hill’s vocals come in with the drums, both hitting like a punch to the gut upon first listen. I can’t but hear a twinge of Electric Light Orchestra’s “Turn to Stone†in the bounce of the background vocals, skipping deftly in layers of golden harmonies. The iconic 70s rock group were masters of intricate arrangements, often employing rhythmic melodies to infuse a touch of brightness to a heavy track.
“Heart†may be Jon Hill’s first release, but the New York-born, LA-based artist has been writing and producing music for six years. Behind the scenes, he’s contributed his unique writing voice to songs for artists like Sedona, Benjamin Carter, Spencer Barnett and Kyle Lux. Now, as a solo artist, he nods to vintage and modern influences, concocting his signature blend of simultaneously timeless and contemporary sounds.
