Sayak Das Delivers a Jaw-Dropping Debut With "DID U RLY?"

Do you ever pull down the stars of your ancestry, looking up at the night sky above and wondering what if... what might happen if their lives had been fated differently. In that respect, Sayak Das comes from a long line of frustrated artists, a family fairly preoccupied with keeping themselves clothed and sheltered to express much more than gratitude for the opportunity. That captured momentum is profoundly felt on Sayak’s debut single "DID U RLY?," a filthy catchy tune that feels like a deluge of prodigious talent streaming into your synapses.

The ebbs and flows, prodding guitars, and melodic rhythm of "DID U RLY?" hints at Sayak’s past as an emo / indie rocker, a creative clearly well-worn in live performances and the instrumental flourishes they allow. For a debut single, and for a writer who goes crazy with song selection, the subtle flexing in ‘DID U RLY’ is intentional, a purposeful and soulful ballad hiding in a patina of angsty bluesy frustration.

Originally from Ohio but now based in Los Angeles, this Indian-American artist and recovering wedding singer felt projected into music by a family that, as aforementioned, always harbored musical talent but not the opportunity to let it thrive. Alongside his incredibly talented sister Paravi, the family has marshaled two riveting creatives, unfurling generational pent-up inspiration that is undeniably magnetic. Like a deep exhale, the promise of a fresh breath of Sayak is undeniable. We can’t believe this is a debut single, and we are now impatiently waiting in a curious quue for the next line of tunes.
