spiderblush Is Done With Running Away in "i can't go back home"

You may not have heard the name spiderblush yet, but you will be glad to know her name once her music reaches your ears. The Indiana-born, Florida-based poet and singer-songwriter combines aspects of bedroom pop, alternative, hyperpop, and more to create a sonic landscape all her own. Even the name spiderblush invokes a juxtaposition of eerie and soft. In her new single, “i can’t go back home,” listeners step into spiderblush’s struggle of feeling uprooted and trying to connect with her inner self.

It’s common for a young rising artist’s music to adopt the essence of a classic coming-of-age soundtrack, but spiderblush’s “i can’t go back home” adds its own flair to the classic body of work. At every turn, there’s a new sound or production element that sets the track apart from its peers. With a detached yet candid vocal delivery, spiderblush vents on the confusion and tribulations of growing up.

In a stream-of-consciousness nature, spiderblush sings about the plight of growing older, the confusion of time passing, and slowly realizing things will never be the same again. Over an epic beat and accompanied by sharp digital production elements, “i can’t go back home” takes listeners on a journey, like a video game character trying to navigate a strange, foreign world. With a sincere melody that perfectly embodies the emotions the deep emotions explored, we’re given an intimate look into the artist’s internal dialogue and struggles. As the song comes to a close, listeners are left with a sense of hope, akin to the emotional reprieve of a venting session.

When speaking about “i can’t go back home,” spiderblush confessed, “This song is special to me because it’s a long-running theme in my life that I don’t feel like I belong anywhere. I’m just running away from everything—people, places, and especially time. But I can’t escape myself, and I can’t stop time.”
