sad alex Explores a New Relationship With Sadness in "crydancing" Video  [Premiere]

Alex Saad, more popularly known as sad alex, began as a Nashville based singer-songwriter until one day she got in the car and drove to LA. She says during the drive, "...something switched in my brain, and the first song I wrote when I moved to LA, 'Hung Up,' was ten times better than anything I'd ever written before."  The rest is seemingly history as sad alex threw herself into her solo career, and is now no stranger to going viral on TikTok and releasing standout projects, like her latest EP, crydancing.

Speaking of  crydancing, sad alex is the gift that keeps on giving, premiering the music video for the EP's eponymous track here today.  The song and its accompanying video is a bittersweet anthem, an intoxicating cocktail that brings forth all the contradictory joy and sorrow of dancing alone in your room at 2 a.m.

"For the 'crydancing' video, I wanted to portray a new relationship with 'sadness.' everyone feels alone when they’re sad, but the reality is that sadness is something that everyone goes through and we’re really sort of in it together. it’s ok to feel that way. accepting and being comfortable with that can make things so much easier. the 'crydancing' video represents this visually, but was also a cathartic day for me. for the crying scene, I had to tap in to some dark places and walk intentionally back into them so we could get the shot, but it sort of proved my theory of crydancing in real time! it was also so powerful to watch everyone in the video tap into something similar for their scene and show that vulnerability on camera. the day was an emotional rollercoaster, but everyone on set really bonded over that as a result," shares sad alex.

In the video, we see sad alex literally tapping into something that allows her to dance it all out. As the video reaches its conclusion, we see the camera pan back and forth, juxtaposing characters crying with clips of them dancing beside sad alex.

The most amazing part of this video for me is how sad alex portrays her relationship with sadness. It's an integral part of her but not debilitating. Sadness is an inescapable fact of life, something we all experience, and sometimes all you can do is crydance your way through it all.
