While it’s far too easy to lose ourselves in the deluge of new music releases that grace us every week, one thing that cannot and should not be overlooked is the art of the music video. With the heyday era of MTV long behind us, Rewind sees us taking a look back at a handful of our favorite music videos of the past week.

d4vd - "Worthless"

Let it be made clear, we are in full bandwagon mode on d4vd at this point and insist you join. If for whatever head-in-a-hole reason you aren’t on board yet, please watch this melodrama of musical genius, bested, like the rest, of us by unrequited love. The video, set therapy style, both solo and group rummages through the anxious feeling whilst dancing and standing in the mixed light of a disco. The feels, and the forward-leaning emotions are impossible not to absorb.

Truth Cult - "Naked in the End"

Fuck, some videos just make you feel left out—uninvited to the party, left behind by the muses, time passing you by, and in this youthful exercise of house party excellence, that is felt most especially. From apple and grape-eating earthbound goddesses to Miller Lite rec room swilling and singing candor, there is very little in this visual accompaniment by Truth Cult that doesn’t pull at faded teenage punk nostalgia. That and the song fucking busts.

Matt Cleare - "4000!" 

Atypical, but it does happen. Occasionally we don’t know what the fuck we are doing and just stumble into a great song, artist, and video, dumbfounded and mouth agape. Knowing little to nothing about this artist, we can only assume director Jochi Saca captured this man’s charisma, approachable humanity, and sexy swagger, because the off-balanced, hand-held shots balanced by static still photo set piece shots make this man irresistible. 

Sir Chloe - "Hooves"

Wow this band, or better understood as the project of vocalist Dana Foote, is fearless in its purposeful songs and belligerent energy. And in the visual for "Hooves," directed by Molly Hawkins and Grant Spainer, that creative chaos is splayed all over the screen. Whether displayed in busy mixed media or Foote firmly planted in a cocktail dress surrounded by sheep, this heavily-stylized video brazenly adheres to no formula and brazen.

Time Simone - "Baby Don’t Quit"

Late to this one obviously, but between the sticky earworm of a single and the absolutely spellbinding visual compliment,  boosted by the fact that model like Aime Simone is a fascinating watch, the video for "Baby Don't Quit" is a striking tour de force. Directed by Jake Erland, the video features a medieval backdrop contrasted with haute couture looks, which then marinates into a shakespearean beachside cave drama, lit by blushes of sea wind, lights, and tall chalk cliffs.
