d4vd Delivers the Heartbreaking "Notes From a Wrist" Ahead of 'The Lost Petals' EP

Multi-dimensional artist d4vd continues to broaden his range and scope with the release of his latest single, "Notes From A Wrist." While much of his lyricism shares the same somber tenor, he deepens his sonic experimentation, tinkering with elements of lo-fi R&B instrumentals and rhythmic, percussive vocals.
Opening with gentle keys and backed with subdued production, "Notes From A Wrist" showcases d4vd's signature emotion-infused vocals, which are calm in nature but have a foreboding undertone swimming just underneath the surface. On the melancholic chorus over a blend of piano, soft percussion, and distant, echoing synths, he croons, "Run away from home again / I'm carving these notes into bloody arms / Alone with my soul impaled/ Run away from your loving arms." He wonders why he's so afraid and crying even though he got what he wanted all along.
"I wrote 'Notes From A Wrist' about a childhood friend that struggled with depression," shares d4vd about the song's inspiration. "It describes the pain experienced in an unstable home and something a lot of people in my generation experience and can relate to. The sonics are very stripped back, and the vocals almost sound like a looming in your head."
The accompanying music video, directed by Erik Rojas, is a cinematic visual that shows d4vd’s life flash before his eyes as he has visions of a lost love. He spends his days and nights alone in an empty house with his clouding thoughts and ghostly memories, blinded and getting lost in what was and what could have been.
The track follows the release of his debut EP, Petals To Thorns, earlier this year, and arrives alongside the announcement of the complementary project, The Lost Petals, set to release September 8. Composed of five unheard songs intended to be an extension of Petals To Thorns, The Lost Petals concludes this phase in d4vd's artistry and looks forward to the young singer-songwriter's next musical offering. In addition, d4vd will be joining SZA on tour this fall.
