Q's "Not Alone" Brings the Funk Ahead of Debut Album 'Soul,PRESENT'
Q Steven Marsden, better known under his musical alias âQ,â has been steadily on a tear since first emerging onto the scene with âTake Me Where Your Heart Isâ during the COVID pandemic, arriving as an epic dive into our search for love and, consequently, our inherent disconnection. With striking falsettos that would make DâAngelo blush, Qâs ticket was punched, and nothing would be the same thereafter.
Most recently, on March 31, Q released the 1980s funk-infused "NOT ALONE," harkening back to a simpler timeâthink Prince, Rick James, and Teddy Pendergrassâonly if they were thrown into a DeLorean and were exposed to an era of Doordash, ChatGPT, and Dogecoin.
âNOT ALONEâ sounds like a classic cut from Grand Theft Auto Vice Cityâs âFever 105â radio station. A loose and percussively-punchy track with hints of pitched-down vocals from the dirty south records weâve all come to love. It sets the tone for not just how adventurous Q has chosen to be here but on his forthcoming debut album, announced alongside the single. Soul,PRESENT, the long-awaited debut album from Q is set to arrive May 5 and includes "NOT ALONE" and previously-released singles "STEREO DRIVER," "TODAY," and "LUV (I KNOW I WANT THIS FOR REAL)."
