OSTON Holds Up a Literal Mirror to Her Everyday Life in "Sour" Visual [Premiere]

Following the release of her sophomore EP, Am I Talking Too Much?, singer-songwriter OSTON has some reflecting to do in the music video for the powerful closing track, "Sour." It's the fifth song from the eight track EP to get a music video, providing another element of the story told throughout the project. Thankfully, the visual component elevates the already impactful album closer.

The "Sour" music video serves as the perfect companion to a song that opens up about deep-rooted insecurity and simultaneously leaves listeners (and now viewers) with a sense of strength. The video portrays a seemingly simple story of OSTON going through a typical day but carrying a mirror around with her wherever she goes. Grabbing coffee, going grocery shopping, and other daily tasks are suddenly weighed down by this unlikely companion. But for anyone who can relate to the feelings portrayed through these lyrics, it's nothing out of the ordinary.

The metaphor runs the risk of being too on the nose, but because of its heartbreakingly relatable nature and OSTON's emotional execution, it connects with the audience naturally. OSTON's vulnerability invites viewers to take a look inside themselves and realize they're not the only ones who navigates life with the heavy burden of questioning their self-worth. The visuals are obviously gorgeous, but the cozy realistic atmosphere is what really invites you into her world and creates a sense of deep understanding.

The stand-out moment of the video is when we witness OSTON playing chess with herself in the mirror, because it mimics the sentiment of "Sour" as a whole. Processing that metaphor and contemplating the games we play with ourselves everyday simply feels like an OSTON lyric come to life.
