Meltt Turns Gives Dreams a Sonic Shape With "Another Quiet Sunday"

Great songwriters often have the innate ability to take concepts that exist in our heads, even our dreams, and make them a reality. A great song can set free thoughts and emotions that have been locked away or forgotten. This is why music can be healing, releasing, and soothing, ultimately connecting with audiences on an existential level.

With their latest EP, Another Quiet Sunday, Meltt flexes their incredible songwriting muscles. This psych-rock band hails from Vancouver, Canada, and has crafted five songs that demand your attention. The ethereal nature of their sound feels like it's scrapped from the fibers that connect dreams to reality. The ultra-silky tone of lead singer Chris Smith is incredibly smooth and is back-stopped by dream-like synths and rhythmic guitars. This EP is crafted with both kinds of euphoria in mind, the one you find on a crowded dancefloor and the one you find lying alone in bed. Songs like “Only in your Eyes” and “Blossom” cause you to move, reflect and ponder all at once.

The band spent a month isolated in a cabin writing for the album. Out of this retreat dawned a brand-new era for the band. “It was a much more experimental phase,” Jamie affirms. “When we were all separate, it opened up a bunch of new doors. By the time we got back together, we were able to establish a totally different sound.” This new sound and subsequent EP reflect the band's growth not just in their songwriting but their technical ability as well. Their desire for people to connect through music shines through everything they write—providing listeners with an auditory experience that is both a little cosmic and quite profound.
