ivri Traverses Otherworldly Sounds and Feelings in 'the star factory'

Eight songs shy and dreadfully melancholic, ivri’s the star factory EP feels like it was downloaded from another nebula, galaxies away.

A promising voice on the rise in the dark indie sphere, ivri has curated a sound that’s mystically painful. the star factory opens with “limbo,” also accompanied by her very first music video. Directed by Jacqueline Xerri, ivri shares “I always said I wouldn't come out with one until it could be as close to the vision I had in my head as possible, and with the help of my team and some awesome friends, here it is!” Both the song and visual further the immersive universe ivri’s come to build, one that bows to Gaia and forbidden love.

Featuring previously released singles “brainrot” and “inversion,” ivri builds upon this feeling of regret and longing, not to discredit her devotion to hope. The dread doesn’t eclipse the romance of her poetry; if anything, it enhances it.

the star factory travels through a narrative of feeling dissociated yet yearning for grounding, with a sense of futurism threaded throughout every far-flung, otherworldly journey. A true mark of talent, ivri does a lot by doing a little. “dragonfly” has only a stanza worth of lyrics, but leaves a trail of goosebumps upon visit. “EVERYTHING” is a louder exclamation of pop punk, while the ethereal “owls eye” is a digital daydream, leaning more intentionally into the softness of bedroom pop.

As we continue to process the whirlwind of this EP, we know undeniably that the star factory is an emotional reckoning. ivri walks humbly while sharing the darkest trenches of her psyche, and that’s the magic of her poison: a soft-spoken vessel that lures you in and packs an unforgiving bite.
