Grace May Delivers a Vintage, Heartfeel Feel on "Runnin'" Video [Premiere]

If you ever wondered how one could employ the video camera your dad used to film your ballet recitals as a kid, then "Runnin'" is a hint of your father's arty alter ego. Shot by her manager (lighting was a flashlight held between her teeth, solidifying her DIY credentials) on a VC Mini DV 700x, devoid of filters because it genuinely is the home video recorder effect everyone seeks to replicate, the video is deft and delicate, with beautiful purpose, a reflection of Grace May's immaculate sound.

Grace May is a 24-year-old chanteuse from Toronto Canada, who is supporting her excellent debut EP, L.V.R., with a video effort. for the standout single  "Ruunin'." She is the both the architect and the subject of the visual, mystically shot at the Harris Water Treatment alongside Lake Ontario. Beguiling you with its lo-fi approach, the visuals hint at longing romance but the narrative darkens as does the natural light, as Grace describes it, "an easy watch but hard to swallow lyrically."

"Runnin'" is a narrative that sadly many have experienced, the pivot between independence and commitment; that long hallway part of a relationship where one is left doubting, wanting answers only you can provide and an unwilling unease darkening the path.... "So afraid to let my guard down / too afraid to let my heart out."

The visual for the single perfectly conveys that discombobulated mental state with frame within frame shots, one light and the other dark, a contrast of opportunity, a visual refrain of should I stay or should I go? The depth afforded by the simple design of the both the video and the song is a reason to slipstream behind Grace, for she is clearly honing a craft still in its chrysalis stage, but the quality of the output is already resplendent.
