Artist monikers are codes, mantras, advertisements to one's work and soul ( and often no vowel exercises in SEO). For the debut effort of artist Giift, that notion is no different but it is also an obvious suggestion of offering: a story from a stranger, notes to be hummed, word to be sung that altogether form so much more than their disparate parts.

Giift, the moniker of 17-year-old Klara, originally from Pretoria South Africa, was adopted into a family out of the very small town of Havnsà¸, Denmark. And her cross-continent upbringing is reflected on "Fed Up," a song about being young, confused, and worried about being appreciated. Delicately steamed over an acoustic guitar, Giift's voice is bare and raw, hiding nothing, including the beautiful tones she earnestly croons. It is a gift of understanding, a nod to youthful anxiety, and it will make today, Giift's birthday (Happy birthday Klara) so much the better for soaking it in.
