CLOVES Ushers in a New Era With the Delicate Yet Impactful "Good Try"

Australia-born, London-based artist CLOVES delivers a haunting performance with the release of her latest single, "Good Try." The track serves as her first official release since her highly praised 2021 album Nightmare on Elmfield Road, ushering in a gentle yet impactful beginning to the next chapter of her artistry.

"Good Try" opens with simple piano riffs and the singer-songwriter's enchanting vocals leading the way through a stripped-down sonic space. In a lullaby-esque tone, she croons," Give it a good try / Then watch it pass you by / You're waiting for the call / That never comes at all." She goes on to encourage the listener not to get too sad over the things not in their life, admitting that she's waking up from a "dream that never was."

As the ballad continues, layers of soothing harmonies, subtle guitar strums, and soft percussion join the space. In the chorus, CLOVES realizes that she's "so far away from wrong" and can't put a finger on what she was running from in the first place. The dark production builds as the track's magnetism intensifies alongside foreboding bass thrums and swirling and fuzzing effects laced on the vocals and preestablished instrumentation.

As the chaos subsides, listeners are brought back down to Earth, with CLOVEs once again singing the chorus, this time backed solely by the trembling keys of a piano, until the piece comes to a close, leaving us all wondering, what are we all running from?
