Coming off a Juno award-winning album, Charlotte Cardin has big shoes to fill—her own. The Canadian singer-songwriter darling put herself on the map with her 2021 album Phoenix and now has the task of following it up. “Jim Carrey” is the latest single taken from her upcoming album 99 Nights, set to release August 25, and Cardin has not missed a single beat. She continues to display the mastery of her unique style of playful electro-pop and delivered another banger.

“Jim Carrey” may be the quintessential song for this phase of Cardin's career. She is keenly aware of the weight of her success. It feels like this is her way of announcing to the world that she is determined to shed the negativity that comes with fame and stay true to who she is. The song is an infectious anthem, an immediate invitation to the dance floor. It’s undoubtedly written to mirror how freeing it can be to cast off the pressure and weight of life. Contained within the song is an incredibly meaningful message, backdropped with a playful rhythm. It gives the vibe of being carefree when it is anything but; intentionality at its best.

“It’s a special one," shares Cardin. "I went into this rabbit hole of Jim Carrey interviews. He discusses ego in an interesting way. In his perspective, our need for acceptance holds us back from embracing who we really are. The track explores getting rid of your ego. You can decide what your destiny is if you take a risk and accept to be who you really are at the fullest. It’s a metaphor, but marrying Jim Carrey is a good way to start the inner work.”

"Jim Carey" is a statement that Cardin is committed to growth, not only as an artist but also as a person. In sharing this track, she invites us alongside her journey. To cast off the expectations and weight of life—be yourself and let loose.
