beabadoobee and Laufey Conjure "A Night To Remember" With a Track You Won't Soon Forget
âYouâve become someone Iâve seen before.â
Weâve all been there beforeâthinking about what our life could have been like if we stayed with that person, moved to that city, given that stranger our number, taken that job, made that decision that would have completely changed the trajectory of our life forever. All of the missed connections, passed opportunities, and infinite possibilities that life just might have been, if only. Lucky for us, Laufey and beabadoobee have teamed up to release âA Night to Remember,â a jazz-tinged letter of love and lust to the people and places that once were and could have been.
âA Night To Rememberâ defies all expectations of what one might expect from a beabadoobee and Laufey collaboration. Fit for the next James Bond film, âA Night to Rememberâ marries Laufeyâs classical, mid-century pop rhythms and beabadoobeeâs airy, twinkling vocals with the right amount of spice to create a warm, sultry, and mesmerizing soundscape that teleports the listener to a dimly lit jazz barâspecifically, during after hours, when you donât know if the night is about to end or if itâs just begun. âA Night To Rememberâ has got a little bit of everything: strings that sweep you off your feet, bossa nova instrumentals, and delicate harmonies that leave you craving more.
Lyrically, Laufey and beabadoobee tell the story of a chance encounter between two people, one where the man is left alone the morning after, stuck between sheets and replaying the night in his head, wondering why she didnât stay. Together, the pair sings, âThen I walked away / You asked me to stay / Now you're thinkin' of what could've been / But you've become someone I've seen before.â On the storytelling and songwriting of âA Night To Remember,â Laufey shares, âWe both agreed that we wanted to write something a bit sexier for this project and âA Night To Rememberâ was born. There are so many songs about being rejected as a woman and this song is about being on the other side of the coin-having one great night then walking away. Reclaiming the narrative!â
Most notably through âglue songâ and âthe way things go,â beabadoobee has traded her electric guitar for orchestral strings, making Laufey the perfect match for a collaboration. âIâve been writing with a lot of different rhythms recently, also with strings and nods to more classical sounds,â shares beabadoobee. âLaufey is a great fit for this sound and we had started hanging out in London, so we got in the studio together to work on music and try ideas with my producer Jacob. We also hung in NY on my tour and started becoming closer friends. We wrote âA Night To Rememberâ and decided we wanted to write something that sounds grand but a bit more sexy lyrically and have fun with that theme.â
