26fix Delivers the Perfect Taste of Left-of-Center Psychedelic Pop in “Just go with it”

26fix, neé Erika Goodwin, is back and funkier than ever. Her new single “Just go with it” is an avant-garde psychedelic-rock-tinged masterpiece that follows the Utah-based artist's breakout success of “Stone Killer,” her groovy, upbeat track released in April.

With the funky graphics that grace her social media and album art it’s clear that Goodwin isn’t taking herself too seriously (the story behind her forthcoming EP follows a girl who chokes on a pickle and dies) but she is clearly serious about good quality production. As in most of her discography, 26fix displays a mastery of instrumentation, experimenting with a driving bassline that stands out among the track and stays sticky in your mind. The lyrics speak to her tongue-in-cheek energy, as she constantly repeats “I need you to take a seat, put up your feet and let it work itself out.”

26fix takes pop sensibilities and sets them to an experimental track bringing fringe, left-of-center rock front-and-center. She experiments with her voice as an added instrument, pitching her vocals up and creating a highly compressed sound that gives the track an out-of-this-world tone. Her inspirations, including King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, are apparent and well-executed, giving off the feeling that 26fix is in complete creative control of her musical universe.

“Just go with it” is unconventional and imaginative, pushing the envelope in every right way. With only a few releases under her belt so far, it's an exciting outlook for a young artist with so much ahead of her, and it’s not hard to imagine that soon enough 26fix could be an iconic name in the world of psychedelic pop.
