Rewind: Our 5 Favorite Music Videos of the Last Week
While it’s far too easy to lose ourselves in the deluge of new music releases that grace us every week, one thing that cannot and should not be overlooked is the art of the music video. With the heyday era of MTV long behind us, Rewind sees us taking a look back at a handful of our favorite music videos of the past week.
Hudi - "In The Cut"
A proper oddball hip-hop throwback tune, Hudi unrepentantly delivers a swagger-savant performance, a poetic dream state that director Logan Rice perfectly captures in LA statement personas and locations. From rail-thin bikini top-clad alternative to thick barbell swinging street peeps, thriving but thrifty looks, to a Mustang 5.0 donut burnout in the LA river, this video keeps up with Hudi’s expansive lyrics and then some.
Kah-Lo - "Karma"
For those who still are bridging the gap between the house pop of their youth and the more substantive tunes of today, look no further than Kan-Lo, who on "Karma" brings back some of the essential club energy of the past with vigor. Taking the classic breakup trope, she firms it up with a simple but visually striking effort that has empowering feminine energy doing its thing with handsome accompaniment.

Maybe this is just a full throwback edition of Rewind because this stellar drop by one of our favorite groups of the moment might as well be Trainspotting 2023. Full of club energy, chemical vibes, and colorful scenery framed with great angles, director Max Bickford goes full thermal on us, updating our Saturday Night Fever for the next-gen, a must-celebrate here.
Femi Tahiru - "The First Time I Got High"
Shit just make it a full Danny Boyle montage at this point, with Femi Tahiru delivering a hard as a heroin high tune. Director Adam De Silva takes us on a visceral, pulsing, and frantically out of control trip with just enough clarity to let us appreciate the manic nature of it all. With Tahiru cast as himself, struggling with the universal drug of love, we are taken in and out of dream states, cooing into mirrors, stumbling through the streets, held up only by the quality of the camera work.
Holly Humberstone - "Antichrist"
Why not end on a cinematic jewel, as Holly Humberstone casts herself as the broken anti-hero, drifting through long sterile hallways, lamenting what her former lover had to endure in the video for "Antichrist." Beautifully centered on the emotive subject mater that is Humberstone’s movie star quality visage, director Jean-Charles Charavin uses a stable of camera movements, zooms and follow shots to take us on a dark adventure, creating the unease and action the song deserves.
