Nashville-based artist Taylor Acorn continues to pave the way as one of the leading ladies of the pop-punk scene with a re-imagined version of "Coma." This time, the powerhouse teamed up with the iconic Cassadee Pop of Hey Monday and The Voice fame to bring the new version to life both sonically and visually with the release of the track's music video. Expressing the mixed emotions that come with a toxic relationship, the new version is empowering to listen to, as each vocalist’s tones pierce through the mix with determined clarity.

The single stars with a smoldering collection of muffled guitar riffs and bass lines and building percussion. With her expressive vocals, Acorn paints a scene of waking up in a bed she doesn't recognize, eventually realizing she's been in a relationship with someone controlling and manipulative. As the instrumentation intensifies around her, She blames herself for not seeing the red flags and being blind to her partner's mistakes. On the explosive chorus, she opens up to feeling like she's been in a coma and has only woken up now that she finally sees her partner's true colors. Pope's presence and crystalline vocals in the second half of the song are the perfect match up to Acorn's rich tone. Taking the track to a place of potential growth, she remarks that now the hold her partner had has disappeared, "the curtains opened up and/ let the sunlight in."

Speaking on the track and collaboration, Taylor shares, “‘Coma’ is about the awakening out of a toxic relationship, feeling free but also almost unrecognizable from the person you were when you were in it (kind of like you were in a coma). ‘Coma’ was written with Cassadee Pope as a co-writer, and I’ve also been a huge fan of hers since Hey Monday. I thought it would add a really awesome element if she was to put her own spin on it as well, so that’s what we did!”

“Writing ‘Coma’ with Taylor and Dan Swank was one of the most easygoing, natural sessions I’ve ever done,” Pope adds. “The dynamic was really special, and I loved getting to write for someone else’s project, especially Taylor, who I’m such a fan of. When she asked me if I would sing on a new version of the song, I immediately said yes because it really is one of my favorite songs out right now. I’ve experienced what the lyric talks about and feel very connected to it.”

The accompanying music video, directed by Doltyn Snedden and shot in Nashville, TN, is a moody and grungy visual that mirrors the dark and complicated emotions that seeth through the track. Both powerhouse vocalists deliver an energetic and dynamic performance by playing off the song's vibes and intricate sonic textures.

With this new rendition of “Coma” comes the announcement of Acorn’s forthcoming EP, Certified Depressant: an 8-track collection of songs delving into the themes of love, loss, and mental health. Dropping September 22 on all streaming platforms, the project will give listeners greater insight into Acorn’s head and heart and the valuable lessons she’s learned thus far. Taylor also announced her first Fall East Coast headlining tour, stopping in Toronto, ON, Pittsburgh, Chicago, New York, Columbus, and Atlanta before wrapping up in Nashville. Buoyed by songs like "Do That Again," "In My Head," and "Shapeshifting," Acorn has become a staple in the pop-punk community. She's joined a handful of fast risers, like Arrows In Action and 408, on their biggest tracks.
