Maddy Davis Pens a Heartfelt Ode For Every "Middle Kid" Out There

Today sees New Jersey-born singer-songwriter Maddy Davis announcing her debut EP, MUD, with the cathartic new single, “Middle Kid.” “Middle Kid” is an ode to the in-between, balancing the downfalls of young naiveté with the often unspoken beauty of bearing the title of middle kid.

A love-song-bordering-diss to herself, “Middle Kid” is a reminder that growing up doesn’t come without its inevitable pains. Even in her all of her doubt, Davis creates glimmering moments of encouragement for her past self. “You think too deeply late at night / You keep your standards way too high / Do it cuz you said you did / You’re doing well middle kid, middle kid,” she sings to her former self.

Davis fully embraces the stereotypes that have been thrown at her as a middle child, proudly displaying them on her sleeve and building an effervescent soundscape in the process. Following her first release, “Can’t Do This Alone,” Davis gives us another piece of the puzzle to lead us closer to discovering who she is as a creative. While we don’t know much about Davis, what we do know is that “Middle Kid” forges a bold sonic path for the beginning of a captivating discography.
