Alternative rock band Grayscale is excited to share their new single, "Not Afraid To Die." The band's first release since 2021's Umbra, and after spending the last couple of years writing and dialing in their sound, the band is back with a synth-fueled track that bears their heart and soul puts fear into perspective, beneath a soaring and vibrant exterior.

"Not Afraid To Die" encapsulates a lot of the unapologetic and immovable nature of Philadelphia families in its songwriting. In the opening lines, lead singer Collin Walsh opens up about what growing up was like for him and his bandmates in their hometown, singing, "When you're from where we are you face shit/ You scrap in basements/ We had no choice, we grew up fast." Over hooky guitar riffs, crashing drum patterns, and thrumming bass lines, he delves into the highs and lows of their youth with an unrelenting honesty that begs you to join along and sing at the top of your lungs.

In the chorus, he reveals that their upbringing overall has prepared them for life, belting, "Cause I'm scared of bugs that bite/ Scared of being alone at night/ Yeah, I'm scared to death of heights/ But I'm not afraid to die." This further touches on the juxtaposing feelings you experience growing up and having the painful parts of life break your heart enough to numb your fear of dying.

"It's a song about mine and my band mates' upbringing in the northeast. It's sort of a celebration of our ruggedness and ridiculousness, I suppose," says Walsh. "I wanted to capture the romance of that in a sort of tongue-in-cheek fashion (the only way people from the northeast could ever talk about anything romantically)."

The accompanying music video is a gorgeous, film-inspired, slice-of-life visual that follows a protagonist as he makes his way through Philly. Scenes of his youth when his parents would fight and ultimately separate intercut footage of city residents going about their days in The City of Brotherly Love, giving it an intimate cinema verite feel. The band, in between all of this, gives an impassioned performance of the single that radiates the track's energy.

The track also marks the band's first independent release and kicks off a new era for Grayscale." We have been writing the most authentic music to us, from a storytelling and sonic perspective. We wanted this song to sound like a band playing together in a room. We've always been a rock band at our core, and we wanted to capture the purest form of that," explained Walsh. Grayscale is now on tour through October 20th, with stops in Boston, New York, Toronto, Chicago, Orlando, Dallas, Los Angeles, and more.
