elijah Delivers Venomous Post-Breakup Anthem “HUMAN” Featuring Memphis May Fire's Matty Mullins | THE NOISE

Nashville-based musician elijah is back with his third heartbreak anthem of the year, “HUMAN.” Alongside Matty Mullins, lead vocalist for metalcore act Memphis May Fire, “HUMAN” features a misleadingly upbeat rhythm paired with scathing lyrics about failed love.

The single opens with a hip-hop-infused beat before promptly launching into filthy guitar lines and driving percussion. elijah sets the spiteful tone for the track with the opening lyrics, “You’re so fake / How could you lie right to my face? / Make me think that I’m to blame for your mistakes / Yeah you cut me down / But it’s too late now.”

Mullins’ appearance on “HUMAN” adds a layer of depth which transforms the track to a gritty, harder-edge rock song about an unraveling romantic relationship. Showcasing his raw vocals, Mullins joins elijah for a climactic chorus, asking, “Coldhearted, no emotion / When did you become so frozen?” Regarding the heavier direction of this single, elijah commented on his TikTok account saying, “I know pop-punk isn’t supposed to be super heavy with a lot of screams, but I don’t care.”

Thematically, “HUMAN” aligns with elijah’s previous pop-punk singles “harder to lie.” and “FAMOUS.” In this recent string of singles, elijah shares his experience with toxic relationships and processes various emotions -- primarily anger but also sorrow as the good times and bad times alike fade away.

In addition to the new track, elijah has also released an unsettling music visualizer for the single. Throughout the visualizer, viewers watch on a loop as a silhouette emerges, reaching out and pressing up against textured glass, only to quickly slip away again and again.

elijah will be performing several upcoming shows, including dates in Nashville and Jeffersonville. Additionally, Memphis May Fire is on tour now through September 26 with Atreyu, Catch Your Breath, and Another Day Dawns.
