Metalcore heavyweights Beartooth have joined forces with country-rock crossover artist HARDY for their new single and first-ever collaboration, “The Better Me.” Serving as the fifth single to be released from their upcoming record Surface, “The Better Me” is a heartfelt and exhilarating addition to the band’s fifth full-length album due out October 13th on Red Bull Records. 

Raw yet positive in nature, “The Better Me” grapples with hitting rock bottom and the grit required to claw your way out, change your life around, and get to the better version of yourself. While thematically delving into heavy topics, the instrumentation is lively and warm, conveying underlying hopefulness. 

Aligned with Beartooth vocalist Caleb Shomo’s last decade of discography, Shomo lays his past wounds bare in “The Better Me” as he sings, “I won’t die in the gutter / cold, alone, and unseen.” The chorus, sung in tandem by Shomo and HARDY, is a mesh of singing and screaming vocal delivery with lyrics sure to strike a chord with anyone who has struggled with depression. 

Over intensifying percussion and guitar riffs, the duo sing out, “I know how to pull myself out / And it’s gonna hurt like hell to set myself free / Just say it out loud, today’s the day I stop fucking around / And be the better me.” 

Speaking to the inspiration of the new track, Shomo shares, “There are times where we feel like there is a way better version of ourselves somewhere deep inside that we need to find and bring back to the forefront of our lives. This song is about going through the things that brought me to that conclusion. Simply put, I made a choice to be a better me.”

While a new optimism is evident in the latest tracks from Beartooth, it’s clear the band will continue to tackle their demons through their work and hopefully inspire others to have the strength to face their own.
